Any item, piece of equipment, software, or product system used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of people with disabilities. Assistive technology ranges from low-tech solutions like grip aids and magnifiers to high-tech devices like screen readers and powered wheelchairs. Access to appropriate AT is fundamental to independent living, education, and employment for people with disabilities.
