Interactive Task Guidance

Also known as: Task Guidance System, Step-by-Step Task Support, Task Prompting

Interactive task guidance is a form of cognitive assistive technology that provides real-time, step-by-step instructions to help individuals with cognitive impairments complete multi-step daily activities. Unlike simple reminder systems that only alert users to start a task, interactive task guidance systems dynamically present each step in sequence, monitor progress, adapt the instruction sequence based on user responses, and can provide alternative instructions or escalate to a caregiver when difficulties arise. These systems are particularly valuable for people with traumatic brain injury, intellectual disabilities, or dementia who have difficulty with sequential processing, prospective memory, and planning.
